Defence 2025
As a long-term strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces, we have an important role in ensuring the security of supply and in securing industrial self-sufficiency.
Partnerships, development, and internationalization
The development of the defence industry continued strongly in 2025.
The scope of the strategic partnership with the Finnish Defence Forces developed favorably, and customer satisfaction grew substantially when compared to the previous year. The high customer satisfaction is based on reliability and high-quality operations, among other things.
International partnerships also developed favourably. We promoted the exports of our products and solutions into the NATO market according to plan. We signed several agreements, one of which was the cooperation agreement signed with Lockheed Martin that deepens and extends the cooperation beyond Finland’s F-35 fighter jet project.
International partnerships in product development
The Insta Steel Eagle™ ER drone solution, developed in collaboration with the Ukrainian industry, was introduced to a broader audience in early 2025. Collaboration and agile productization enable these capabilities and lessons to also be applied in domestic defence.
In the fall of 2025, we launched Insta DomainLink Secret™, a next-generation Cross Domain Solution (CDS) that was developed in cooperation with Lockheed Martin. It is a high-performance CDS for secure, real-time data exchanges between military network environments and systems. The solution is based on modern technology and enables real-time, secure two-way data transfers between various service branches, such as the army, navy, and air force, and between various security levels in the chain of command; this is especially important in multi-domain operations.
Diverse cooperation on research
Insta helps its customers succeed today and in the future. We actively take part in research consortia in Finland as well as internationally, and in projects funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF).
In 2025, the three-year research and development project SWARM-C3 (Command, Control, and Communications for Multi-X Swarms), where Insta is involved as the second Finnish organization, was under way. The project aims at developing a new operative concept for the management and control of autonomous, unmanned swarm systems that operate on land, at sea, and in the air.
The iMUGS2 project, which develops next-generation interoperable, unmanned land systems, also started in 2025. The project was started by the European Commission’s European Defence Fund (EDF). The iMUGS2 project builds on the achievements of the original iMUGS project, and the aim is to strengthen Europe’s autonomy and robotics capabilities by developing scalable, interoperable, and secure system architecture for both unmanned and manned platforms. Insta was also involved in the first iMUGS project.
Interest towards the defence sector continues to grow
The interest toward the defence sector and opportunities to secure Finnish society have grown, which continues to be reflected in recruitment. We succeeded in recruiting competent personnel in 2025, but the need to recruit experts will continue.
