Quantum computing is reshaping security

In today’s digital world, PKI certificates are central to building trust and ensuring security across web services, electronic communications and device identity management. The goal of the Insta–Thales partnership is to ensure that organizations and critical infrastructure can transition safely into the era of quantum computing. While quantum computing offers promising opportunities, it also introduces significant security risks. Current cryptographic algorithms such as RSA and ECC may be broken by the computational power of future quantum computers. Developing standardized, quantum-safe solutions is essential so that organizations can protect themselves against emerging threats and preserve the confidentiality of sensitive data in the years ahead.

Protecting critical environments

Insta Advance Oy is adding capabilities to its next-generation Certificate Authority (CA) product to issue quantum-safe certificates. Thales contributes its leading expertise in key management and Hardware Security Module (HSM) solutions. Thales HSMs are already widely used to protect critical environments, and this collaboration will ensure their technical compatibility with Insta Advance’s new CA product.

“In recent years we’ve been deeply involved in research projects, and now that quantum-safe standards have been published, it’s time to bring them into our products. Our current CA products are used in over 50 countries, and we have decades of development experience. Working with Thales strengthens our already extensive international partner network and supports the protection of our new CA product,” says Juha Luukkanen, Secure Digital Identity Director at Insta Advance.

“Thales is committed to providing secure and sustainable long-term encryption solutions for its customers. Our collaboration with Insta aligns with our strategy to deliver advanced quantum-secure encryption technologies that will protect organizations' critical data in the future,” says John Ray, HSM Product Management Director at Thales.

Through this collaboration, Insta and Thales will enable a seamless transition to the quantum-safe era, ensuring that organizations can continue to use their digital services securely well into the future.
