Research and product development – state-of-the-art expertise and close cooperation

Our extensive research efforts and strong competence enable us to create new solutions as well as help our customers to develop high-capability technologies. In addition to the development projects that we perform in-house and for our customers, we engage in diverse international collaboration with research institutions and other companies. Continuous learning, expedited development, and the courage to apply what is new are essential for creating new capabilities.

Key research projects

Swarm intelligence and autonomy

SWARM-C3 (Command, Control, and Communications for Multi-X Swarms)

An international project from the European Defence Fund that is related to autonomy and swarming. The main goal is to create a new type of functional concept for the control of autonomous, unmanned swarm systems, such as drone swarms, on land, at sea, and in the air. Insta brings its special expertise in command and control systems, swarming, and autonomy to the project. In the project, Insta researches and develops concepts that allow for maximizing the performance of autonomous swarms in order to achieve the best possible situational awareness, for example.

Autonomous ground systems

iMUGS2 (Integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System 2)

The project develops next generation interoperable unmanned ground systems. The project was started by the European Commission’s European Defence Fund (EDF). Insta was a project consortium member also in the first iMUGS project. The aim is to strengthen Europe’s autonomy and robotics capabilities by developing scalable, interoperable and secure system architecture for both unmanned and manned platforms. Insta brings its special competence in swarm intelligence and autonomous behavior to the project.

IPBAM Pilot equipment

Future aerial warfare and pilot performance

Enhanced Pilot Interfaces & Interactions for fighter Cockpit (EPIIC)

This joint-European project aimed at developing innovative technologies required for future air warfare that ensure the success of pilots in demanding air warfare environments. Insta participated by looking at solutions that monitor the pilot’s performance and state of health, such as active noise cancelling and next-generation respiration sensors. For example, Insta created algorithms and systems for the continuous monitoring of the pilot’s breathing and related physiological states. Funded by the EU & European Defence Fund 2023–2025.
