The term “polycrisis” refers to a situation where several simultaneous environmental, geopolitical, and financial crises interconnect and strengthen each other. A polycrisis shapes our faith in the future, tests our well-being, and erodes trust in the operation of society.
Polycrises require cross-disciplinary solutions. Insta specializes in critically important products, services, and systems that are tailored to our customers’ needs. These range from command and control systems to theater automation, from cyber security solutions to electrical cabinets, and from water supply to aviation technology.
In an age affected by polycrises, a safe, predictable, and stable society is can not be taken for granted in large parts of the world. Critical infrastructure or a substantial security of supply are not available everywhere, and not all places in the world have clean water or a water supply. At Insta, we see opportunities for international expansion exactly because we have been able to work as part of the national security of supply in Finland already for decades, and we have extensive experience and expertise in diverse fields of industry. We are a reliable partner for the Finnish Defence Forces, public administration, and companies.
Anticipate, exercise, and identify potential crises
The earlier we identify an approaching crisis and act to mitigate it, the more room to maneuver we will have. A company that looks into the future can secure its business against future crises by tending to its sustainability and cyber security today and striving for green transition. Now and in the future, Insta will work to improve the energy efficiency of its customers, to reduce waste material, and to improve efficiency. Together, we aim to find ways to implement green transition, and we cherish the trust that our customers place in us. As part of our core business, we also have a significant role in cyber security and defence.
As an example of crisis management, Insta’s Trasim exercise platform can implement various crisis exercises, which allow for minimizing damage in case of an actual disturbance. These exercises test the functionality of the organization’s procedures and approaches and train key personnel to act during emergencies. This allows identified weaknesses to be rectified even before the actual problem appears.
We ensure the continuity of our customers’ business while also bearing in mind our own operations. We reduce our negative impacts on the climate and seek ways to improve our resource efficiency. For example, we transitioned to completely carbon-free district heating and electricity at Insta’s Sarankulma campus in 2025–2026. Changes such as these may be relatively small at the company level, but they reduce our annual carbon footprint by an amount that corresponds to the annual carbon footprint of hundreds of Finns. Actions that promote the common good are never meaningless.
Meaningful work provides support even during difficult times
Insta can also offer work that is meaningful from an individual’s perspective – already as trainees, employeescan work with real projects and assume responsibility. Meaningfulness is related to the feeling that the work contributes to something valuable, or offers opportunities for personal development. At Insta, job descriptions can usually be modified and developed while taking into account competence, training, and areas of interest, which reinforces both well-being at work and the employee experience.
Meaningful work supports well-being more comprehensively, as one can participate in solving the problems of the age of polycrises in their everyday work. Work supports confidence in the future and in one’s opportunities to improve the future, which shields individuals against the feeling of hopelessness brought about by crises.
Meaningfulness also helps with recruiting and retaining the best people. At the same time, we have identified the potential detrimental impacts of a high level of commitment: if the work is not adequately supported and led, it may give rise to exhaustion. Special attention is paid to these risks, and they are prevented as part of a broader effort to promote well-being at work. None of us can fix the world alone, but, at Insta, everyone can participate in doing it.
