In the early 2000s, Insta’s Engineering department broke new ground in the world of theatrical arts.
Set control systems and other automation were built as turnkey deliveries to theaters and concert halls. A set control system and mechanics was shipped to Tampere Workers’ Theatre as a turnkey delivery.
An expert in stage technology
As Tampere Workers’ Theatre closed its season in mid-May 2000, Insta began the installation work on the new system. The system was named “Whisper”. Jyri Stenberg recalls how he was initially skeptical about the stage project when a consultant called him in 1999. After visiting the site, however, he became convinced that the theater’s stage automation had potential for Insta. The system contained large electric motors and variable frequency drives controlled with precise automation as well as other things that an engineer found to be interesting. Today, Insta is the market leader in Finland for stage mechanics and control systems, so the perception of potential in 1999 turned out to be correct.
On the main stage of the National Opera
During the 2000s, Insta completed stage technology automation projects for several of Finland’s significant art institutions, theaters, and concert halls.
In 2006, Insta Automation signed an agreement for the renovation of theater technology on the main stage of the Finnish National Opera, which was the largest in the company’s history. Other significant cultural institutions doing business with Insta included Tampere Hall, Finlandia Hall, the Kotka City Theatre, Svenska Teatern, and Lahti City Theatre, which the fitters came to know very well.
