Insta to deliver electrification and instrumentation installations to Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH’s waste-to-energy power boiler JV3 in Vantaa

Insta Automation Oy has entered into an agreement with Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH for electrification and instrumentation installations for Vantaa Energy’s waste-to-energy power plant JV3 to be built in Vantaa. With a new power plant Vantaa Energy took another leap forward in its climate goals and will end the use of fossil fuels by 2026.

Insta's part of the delivery includes electrification and instrumentation installations and their de-tailed engineering. Insta's share of the work will start right at the beginning of August and end in the late spring of 2022.

Steinmüeller Babcock Environment GmbH is a traditional German boiler manufacturer belonging to the Japanese Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Group.

The Project Manager of Insta is Tero Lehtinen.

    What is it about?

The Vantaa Waste to Energy plant will be built adjacent to an existing plant in urban Vantaa, a city of 220,000 inhabitants in the Greater Helsinki area. The construction of the plant is one of the measures taken by Vantaa Energy Ltd as it pursues its target of removing coal from its energy-producing plant portfolio by 2023.

Using Steinmüller Babcock’s fuel flexible Waste to Energy technology, the plant will, once opera-tional, contribute significantly towards achieving Finland’s national recycling target, by converting non-recyclable material flows from the recycling industry into valuable energy.

The new plant has a fuel capacity of 80 MWth based on a boiler concept designed to generate district heating only, producing steam energy at 20 bar(a) and 210°C. This steam energy will gen-erate water up to a temperature of 115°C, which will be transmitted into the district heating net-work of the Vantaa region.
