Insta will deliver the primary power distribution for Easpring’s battery materials plant under construction in Kotka as a turnkey project. The power distribution delivery to Finland’s first NMC-based cathode active material production facility is the largest in Insta’s history.
Insta will deliver the main power distribution from the connection point to the substation building for the battery material plant being built in Kotka for Easpring Finland New Materials Oy.
The scope includes 110 kV cabling, a 110 kV AIS switchyard with a double-busbar system, medium-voltage switchgears, and protection and auxiliary power systems, all delivered and installed. The delivery is the largest of its kind in Insta’s history.
Construction work for the factory began in spring 2025, and commercial production is scheduled to start in 2027. Insta’s share of the project will be handed over in April 2026.
Materials for the future of mobility
The Kotka plant is the first facility in Finland to produce nickel–manganese–cobalt (NMC)-based cathode active material. The powder-like cathode active material (CAM) is used in the production of battery cells for electric vehicles and energy storage. The plant’s annual CAM production capacity is 60,000 tons, corresponding to the CAM needs of approximately 750,000 electric cars.
The battery materials plant is an investment of more than 800 million and is expected to generate around EUR 180 million in annual tax revenue. The produced cathode active material will meet European customers’ sustainability and traceability requirements.
