Insta to deliver instrument and ICT installations to Husum pulp mill

Green transition

Metsä Board is renewing its integrated paperboard and pulp mill in Husum, Sweden. The first phase of the pulp mill investment includes a new recovery boiler, an upgrade of the existing evaporation plant, a new control building and turbine. The expected start-up will be in the first half of 2022.

Insta Automation Oy and Husum Pulp AB have entered into an agreement for instrument installations for turbine building and ICT installations for the renewal. Insta's part of the delivery includes both instrumentation and cabinet manufacturing.

– We shall deliver installations for the existing areas of the running mill and the turbine area. Work will start right at the beginning of August 2021 and end in the late May of 2022. The number of employees will be 14–15 in the busiest period, says Senior project manager Kari Kivimäki.

In a second phase of the renewal, to be decided and implemented later, the current two fiber lines would be replaced with one new.

Metsä Board which in January 2021 signed an agreement to sell a 30 percent stake in its Husum pulp mill to Norra Skog, has a strategy to continue its productive growth in fresh fiber-based packaging materials. The transaction will enable the company's development investments to paperboard. The planned projects aim at organic growth, developing the product offering, and improving cost-efficiency.

Metsä Board is a leading European producer of premium fresh fiber paperboards and a forerunner in sustainability. The Husum pulp mill produces folding boxboard, uncoated white kraftliner, and bleached chemical pulp.
