Insta to deliver electrical and instrumentation installations to Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH’s waste-to-energy power boiler in Salo

Insta Automation Oy has entered into an agreement with Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH for electrification and instrumentation installations for Lounavoima Oy's waste-to-energy power plant in Salo.

The power plant in Korvenmäki utilizes unrecyclable waste as local energy for residents and companies. It replaces fossil fuels and peat in primary energy production, making energy more environmentally friendly. The plant will produce both district heating and electricity and is scheduled to be operational in 2021.

Insta's part of the delivery includes electrification and instrumentation installations and their detailed engineering. Insta's share of the work will start right at the mid of May and end in the late autumn of 2020.

Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH is a traditional German boiler manufacturer belonging to the Japanese Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Group.

The Project Manager of Insta is Tero Lehtinen.

What's it about?

The waste-to-energy plant to be built in Korvenmäki in the City of Salo is scheduled for completion in 2021. The plant, which utilizes a maximum of 120,000 tonnes of waste per year, will produce 180–190 GWh of district heat and approximately 72 GWh of electricity per year. With the help of a plant replacing fossil fuels and peat in energy production, 90% of district heating in Salo can be produced with energy from waste. The waste-to-energy plant is owned by waste management company Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy and the municipal district heating company Salon Kaukolämpö Oy. You can learn more about the plant on Lounavoima's website.
