Insta's Story

Insta is a respected and acknowledged expert company that employs 800 professionals in the fields of digitalization, automation solutions, and defense technology. The story behind Insta is unique, involving a Finnish family company.

In June, Finn Mattsson with his partners established Automatiikka-Asentajat Mattsson & K:nit company, which specialized in industrial instrument installations in order to provide a substitute for foreign labor. The company quickly gained a strong foothold and by the end of the decade, employed as many as 220 workers. At the end of the decade, growth was also achieved through the commencement of automation engineering.

To cater to the growing business, Instrumentointi Oy was established as a subsidiary company of Automatiikka-Asentajat Oy. In the beginning, the objective of Instrumentointi Oy was to focus on industrial automation project pre-planning and maintenance tasks in the forestry industry. Soon, however, Instrumentointi Oy launched two new business areas: airplane meter repair services and the manufacturing of service station instrumentation.

Alongside airplane maintenance, defense technology development work was commenced, beginning with projects involving simulator updates. Expertise was extended to training simulator and command and control (C2) systems, as well as the modernization of weapons systems. In 1985, Automatiikka-Asentajat Oy was merged with Instrumentointi Oy.

New themes in the 1990s included information security and display systems, as well as ICT technology. The activities pertaining to service stations were relinquished and the SecGo Group was established to manage trade related to information security. The takeover of Pantek Automation Oy further enhanced cabinet manufacturing and turn-key activities related to industrial automation.

The SecGo arrangement was decommissioned, the business related to display systems was sold off, and the business focused on manufacturing automation cabinets was further reinforced through company takeovers.
Arrangements completed in 2005 led to the establishment of a group of companies:
The parent company, Insta Group Oy, corporatized its business sector in stages, in accordance with a new strategy. This formed a new corporate organization, in which the role of the parent company is to manage strategic leadership and financing, while also providing shared corporate services for subsidiary companies organized in their respective fields. In 2009, the business operations of Millog Oy, a partner group of Insta Group Oy, were launched. Initially, Insta possessed 26% ownership of Millog. Since then, its ownership of external shares has increased to 38% as a result of stock trading.

In 2011, the weapons integration trade of Insta DefSec Oy was transferred to the Millog Corporation as a business transfer. Between 2011 and 2013, the business activities of Insta Automation Oy were expanded through company takeovers, in addition to organic growth. In 2012, Insta Innovation Oy was founded. Its strategy involves developing new synergistic businesses as Insta core activities.
From 2010 to 2015, over 20,000 square meters of new premises designed to meet the new requirements were built and renovated in the Sarankulma campus area. Moreover, a new land area of approximately 20,000 square meters was purchased in order to ensure opportunities for future expansion.
In 2015, a personnel fund was established at Insta.
A strategic partnership with the Finnish Defense Forces was established in 2015.
During the same year, ownership arrangements were completed and, as a result, Niklas and Nora Mattsson's company ownership shares increased to 20%.
