Insta and Valmet have agreed on the delivery of electrical, instrumentation and automation installations for Kraftringen’s new combined heat & power plant in Skåne. The project is Skåne’s largest energy production investment in more than ten years.
Valmet will deliver a BFB fluidized bed boiler and flue gas treatment equipment to Kraftringen’s new biomass-based combined heat and power (CHP) plant. The plant is being built in Örtofta, Skåne.

Insta will deliver the electrical, instrumentation and automation installations for the boiler plant and flue gas treatment equipment. The scope also includes building electrical works for the boiler building. The delivery covers cabling, cable trays, and the installation and wiring of field devices.
Skåne’s largest energy production investment in more than a decade
The new CHP plant is part of Kraftringen’s long-term investment programme and is Skåne’s largest energy production investment in more than ten years. The plant, to be built next to the existing CHP plant, will replace ageing production units and strengthen the security of district heating supply in Central and Western Skåne.
With the new CHP plant, Örtofta’s district heating production capacity will nearly double, enabling up to 75 megawatts of additional capacity to be offered to new and existing Dh customers. The project will also increase opportunities for supplying process steam and support local, predictable electricity production.
Key parts of Valmet’s delivery include a BFB bubbling fluidized bed boiler and a flue gas treatment system with integrated heat recovery. The plant’s design also takes into account the possibility of integrating carbon capture at a later stage.
After civilworks and structural works were completed in the summer, the project has moved into a phase where systems from several suppliers are being coordinated. The plant is scheduled to be operational in 2028. Insta’s work will take place between October 2026 and December 2027.
Cooperation with Valmet also in other energy projects
Insta and Valmet have cooperated on several energy projects. The latest joint project in Sweden was the execution of instrumentation and automation installations for the BFB boiler plant, as well as the flue gas cleaning and condensing systems, supplied by Valmet for Göteborg Energi’s biomass power plant. Insta is currently involved in the delivery of a similar Valmet BFB boiler for ŠKO-ENERGO's modernization project in the Czech Republic.
“Valmet’s confidence that Insta can deliver the extensive installation scope with high quality and efficiency was a key factor in selecting Insta,” says Insta’s Project Manager Leopold Ringbom.
Kraftringen is one of the largest energy companies in southern Sweden. The company produces and supplies electricity, district heating, district cooling and energy services for households, businesses and industry, particularly in the Skåne region.
