Insta is modernizing the process automation system of Hämeenlinna Seudun Vesi Oy’s Paroinen wastewater treatment plant. The project is currently entering its fourth and final phase, during which previously upgraded process stations will be migrated to a renewable SCADA environment, system‑level data communication connections will be renewed, and six new process stations will be implemented. The first three phases were carried out between 2017 and 2020, and the final phase will be completed by the end of October 2022.

HS‑Vesi is renewing the treatment process as part of an extensive modernization carried out between 2020 and 2022, representing the company’s largest single environmental investment in its history. The objective is to enhance total nitrogen removal in order to comply with new environmental permit obligations and to introduce disinfection for treated wastewater.

The Paroinen wastewater treatment plant processes wastewater from the city of Hämeenlinna, Hattula, Hauho, Tuulos, Renko, and approximately one third of Kalvola’s wastewater. The average daily flow is around 20,000 cubic meters.

As a customer of Insta’s maintenance and life-cycle services, HS‑Vesi’s facilities are actively involved in the development of water utility automation and digitalization. The collaboration began in 2003, since when Insta has continuously modernized the company’s water utility automation.

HS‑Vesi has been using reporting and advanced alarm management software from the Insta Wahti® service family for more than 20 years. The company has also been a forerunner in adopting the Insta Wahti® Support system, designed to manage and enhance maintenance processes. Through this service, Insta has provided HS‑Vesi with solutions based on SOPIVA guidelines and linked to security of supply.
